Saturday 12 November 2022
For the first time in the Club’s history, Collaroy T.C. is represented by a team in the Women’s Sydney Premier League competition – a team managed by Evolve’s Scott Fletcher. The Premier League is a team competition featuring both singles and doubles and is restricted to the very best players in Sydney. A high UTR rating is a requirement of entry with only six teams granted entry into the comp., all competing for a lucrative total of $22,500 in prizemoney.
On Saturday 12th November, our Club played host to the final regular round of the 2022 comp. with all six teams in the League playing at our picturesque venue on a wonderfully warm day with hardly a breath of wind to cool the players – (very unusual for Collaroy!).
Club members and spectators from all over Sydney witnessed some blistering tennis from the likes of professional player, Lisa Mays and irrepressible Northern suburbs legend, Melissa Anderson. But all local eyes were on the Collaroy Team, running 5th before this final round and in danger of missing the Semis.
The CTC Team consists of local girls Elise Thompson, Simone Cameron and Charleigh Faye together with some of the top players from the Meridian International School in Surry Hills. Our opponent in the final round was UTS (University of Technology Sydney). UTS fought bravely throughout the afternoon but proved no match for Collaroy as our girls won all four singles and both doubles matches… a stunning result that propelled them into 4th place overall.
This outstanding win means Collaroy now plays Minor Premiers and competition favourites ‘The Superb Ladies’ (from the Mills Park Tennis Centre, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai) in Saturday’s Semi Final, on grass at Sydney Uni.
Head of Pathways at Tennis NSW, Jaslyn Hewitt-Shehadie, was on hand to witness the event and commented favourably on our beautiful club, welcoming attitude and new logo! A special thanks to Lynne Bridges who provided an array of afternoon tea treats that was greatly appreciated by players and spectators alike.
Good luck in the Semis. girls… GO COLLAROY!
