The Tennis Northern Beaches Monday Night Ladies Comp in division 2 proved to be one of the most closely-fought events. After round 10, only 6 points separated the first six teams out of the eight in the division. The Collaroy team of Lynne Bridges and Julie King went through the comp winning all matches except one against Terrey Hills, whom they will play in the final. With Julie unable to play the last three matches, it fell to the lovely Judy James to take her place.

After play at 2-2, the Collaroy girls broke the opponents’ serve to lead 4-2. Long cross-court rallies dominated the play from both teams, but a few deep Collaroy lobs secured the set at 6-3. The second set proved to be another torrent of cross-court exchanges and many deuces in every game. The Collaroy girls led 3-0 but it was soon 3-2. Again some long rally exchanges, and a few angled drop shots from Lynne and deep lobs from Judy gave the girls another 4-2 lead. Making the opposition hit ‘one more ball’ proved to be the winning combination at 6-3.

Congratulations also to Collaroy Tennis Club’s Lee Stapleton, Cathy Hall and Sharon Anderson who won in division 5!
