All-Collaroy Final in NSW Masters State Championships
Updated: 29 minutes ago

Part of the World Tennis Masters circuit, the NSW State Championships MT700 were held last week in Leumeah, with the Finals taking place on the Monday of the Long Weekend – October 5.
In the MS50 Men’s Singles Category, players from as far afield as the U.K. and Canada contested the event, but in the end, it came down to an all-Collaroy Final!
Top seed for the event was Michal Korecky currently ranked World No. 21 in Singles in the 50s. And the 2nd seed was Albin Kurti, with a current world ranking of 29.
Both ‘Collaroyans’ played strongly to reach the Final, with Albin, fresh from representing Australia at the World Masters in Italy, not dropping a set on his way to the Decider. He did survive a nail-biting Semi-Final against the No. 3 seed, Queenslander Scott Groves, winning in two tight Tiebreakers 7-6, 7-6.
The first set of the Final was also closely contested and again went the distance. But a match fit Albin proved too tough in the second set, the final score 7-6, 6-1. This win will see Albin become the No. 1 ranked Australian in his age category, worldwide.

It was the second consecutive Runner Up medal for Mikhal, who also finished 2nd in the Queensland State Championships in July.
Congratulations to both Michal and Albin for flying the Collaroy flag at this high level of our sport. We look forward to seeing both compete again in the upcoming Club Championships.
