Collaroy celebrates 2025 US Open in style!

A sea of star spangled Red, White & Blue (and Gareth) swept Collaroy

On Saturday, 6 September 2025, as Carlos Alcaraz prepared to make history in New York ahead of the Men’s US Open Final, some 40 Collaroy members gathered in the sun to pay tribute to the last of the Grand Slams for 2025.

Old Glory flew proudly above proceedings and indeed, the whole Club was a veritable sea of star spangled Red, White and Blue. A carefully curated 'American Playlist' filled the air with great vibes from Bill Haley, Elvis and Chuck Berry, through Motown and to the Foo Fighters.

Even with Valerie absent on this occasion, the competition for ‘Best Dressed’ reached new heights, especially among the Ladies. So fierce was the competition in that category that, just as on French Open Day, prizes had to be split among three hot contestants – Anna C. (‘Hannah Montana’), Justine (looking every bit a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader) and Michela (Brazil’s own ‘American Sweetheart’). The Men’s field was somewhat more subdued, with Garry (‘Mr USA’) taking home the prize.

Players were assigned to groups across all 6 courts, swapping partners after each match with their total over a minimum of 4 sets determining the winners. The tennis was memorable and the roll call of newly minted CTC Grand Slam Champions contained a mix of some fresh faces and others we’d seen before.

The disbelief was obvious when Warren (Stentman) won another title

On Court 1, Warren and Gareth fought out another stirring battle, this time reversing the result of the French Open. Court 2 saw a close encounter between our two Filipino stars Anna and Wil. Jackie was the runaway winner on Court 3 after poor Geoff had to withdraw with a leg injury. Justine and Colm fought out a spine-tingling struggle on Court 4, Chris E. took the chocolates on Court 5 and Pamela tasted victory on Court 6. The full list of winners is:

Court 1 – Warren aka ‘Stentman’ (Runner-Up, Gareth G.)

Court 2 – Anna aka ‘Hannah Montana’ (Runner-Up, Wil)

Court 3 – Jackie ‘de Shannon’ (Runner-Up in her first Grand Slam, Yoness)

Court 4 – Justine and Colm (Joint Winners)

Court 5 – Chris E. aka Captain America’ (Runner-Up in her first Grand Slam, Natalie)

Court 6 – Pamela ‘not Anderson’ (Runner-Up, Tony aka ‘Tony the Pro’)

A big thank you to everyone who brought a plate, providing us with a selection of delicious nibbles and to Tong Master Col, who served up the best tasting barbequed Hot Dogs EVER! Naturally ‘Anna the Agitator’ and ‘Michela the Mixer’ concocted their usual delectable, iced beverages to accompany the American-inspired treats.

With this year’s four Grand Slams now done and won, we look forward firstly to our own Club Championships, and then as the New Year flies toward us, the Green and Gold will be out in force before you know it, as we prepare for the 1st Slam of 2026 - Collaroy Tennis Club's Australian Open celebration.

Bewdy Newk!
