This year, only a small contingent from Collaroy Tennis Club made the trip south for the annual Ulladulla Seniors Tournament. Many of the usual crew were unable to attend, but Kenny and Wil proudly flew the flag for Collaroy, while a couple of former members also appeared in the draw.
The Tournament once again lived up to its reputation, delivering three days of excellent tennis in glorious south coast weather. Kenny arrived on the Friday afternoon, enjoyed a relaxed dinner, then geared up for what promised to be a big day of tennis on Saturday. He had to compete in two separate events before heading back to Sydney in time for Sunday’s Tennis Northern Beaches InterClub Challenge. (Now THAT’S commitment!)
So on Saturday morning, Kenny and Wil teamed up for the Over 50 Men’s Doubles, facing a Round Robin group of five teams - four sets to play with every game counting.
The CTC pair started strongly, winning two of their first three matches to keep themselves firmly in contention. But in the end, everything came down to the final match against a pair that was so far undefeated and leading the game tally.
To claim the title, Kenny and Wil didn’t just need to win… they needed to win BIG!
What followed was one of those rare moments in tennis when everything just clicks. The CTC boys dug deep, lifted their intensity and produced a stunning 8–0 victory to take the title! A brilliant start to the day for Collaroy.

Mixed Doubles: Big Serves and Big Results
After a successful morning, next up came the afternoon Mixed Doubles event.
Wil was called in as a last‑minute reserve to cover for a late withdrawal, while Kenny once again partnered International All Abilities Champion, Michelle Windsor, who was debuting a new service action.

The new serve worked beautifully, Michelle’s first‑serve percentage topping 90% throughout the afternoon as the pair battled some very tough opponents. (Who knew they keep stats. In Ulladulla!) 😊 Kenny and Michelle played solid tennis against all-comers, and just missed out on the winners’ cheque, claiming the Runners‑Up prize.
A Massive Thank You to Mary‑Lou
Once again, Tournament Director Mary‑Lou Barclay delivered a flawlessly organised weekend. Everything ran smoothly from start to finish - draws, court allocations, scheduling and results. If there’s a Volunteer of the Year award going for the Seniors Circuit, Mary Lou should definitely be in the running!
The Ulladulla Seniors Tournament continues to be one of the most enjoyable weekends on the tennis calendar - great tennis, a friendly atmosphere and a beautiful environment. Whether you’re in it for the competition or just the fun of the event, we highly recommend locking it into your 2027 diary. Next February, we’re hoping for a return of a bigger team representing Collaroy.

With the loot safely stashed in his racquet bag, Kenny made the 3 hour-plus drive back to Sydney on Saturday night, stopping only briefly en route to refresh and keep the yawns at bay. He was there at Keirle Park the next morning to support the Collaroy Team in the TNB InterClub Challenge. A great effort by our touring Club Captain!
