On Saturday, 23 August, the rain cleared in time for two Badge Finals to be played at Collaroy. The Club fielded 5 teams in the Sydney-wide Badge Comp. this season, with three making the Semi-Finals (congratulations to the Ladies Team led by Captain, Samantha) and two of our Men's Teams winning through to the Final.
Our Div. 9 men, fresh from their success over the PM's Marrickville squad in the Semi. took on Killara in the Final... and it was an absolute thriller! There was a standout doubles pairing on each team, each winning 3 of their 4 sets, with team mates chipping in for vital set wins so that at the end of eight sets, the teams were tied at 4 sets all.
It came down to a count-back on games, with Collaroy the comfortable victor by a 9-game margin. Congratulations to the winning team on the day, Jan L., Rob W., Rob T. and Brendan V. and to their team mates who helped get them to the Finals, Geoff A., Chris E., Dirk V. and Simon G.
Our Div. 12 Men's Team had coasted through the Comp. finishing with a record high 115 points after completion of the general rounds - 32.5 points clear of their closest rival. The CTC team won their Semi-Final 7 sets to 1 against Neutral Bay and followed up in Saturday's Final with a resounding 5 sets to 1 victory (2 sets unplayed) against Strathfield.

Led by rock solid Skipper, Damian, the team also comprised Dave K., Kenny and Chris C., international man of mystery, Peter M., hospital heartthrob Warren, Phil G. and John H. Due to injury and work commitments, other members Glenn R. and Gareth G. didn't make it onto the court all Comp., but provided stalwart support via the Team WhatsApp group every week.
Though an indication that the team should have been graded higher, Damian and Dave still notched up a fair effort, not losing a single set throughout the Comp. And while the standard could have been better, the Team still had a lot of fun throughout and is looking forward to splurging their winnings at a big End of Comp. Celebration Dinner. Well done Team!
