On Sunday 27 July, Collaroy Tennis Club played host to the inaugural Collaroy v Kooroora Junior Inter-Club Challenge organised by Evolve Tennis Academy.
It was a fantastic day of quality tennis and fine sportsmanship across the board as some of the best juniors from both clubs gave it their best in a true battle of the Northern Beaches v Northern Suburbs.
Members of the Collaroy T.C. Committee including Wil, Kenny, Glenn, Dave and Damian joined Kooroora Club President, Helen Ackerman, to watch some great matches unfold. 15 players per club were grouped within their UTR range and played both Singles and Doubles matches. All players are being coached by Evolve at either Collaroy or Kooroora.

Collaroy was represented by Jesse Singh, Sky Salamat, Joshua Tchou, Bianca Lua, Angus Rourke, Archie Gatehouse, Luca Tapsak, Agnes Smith, Annabella Lorusso, Samuel Read, Finn Hellmrich, Luca Stancevic, Thomas Read, Ines Stockbuerger and Ethan Hallet.
Representing Kooroora were Damond Jin, Aiden Chan, Evelyin Liu, Ken Mizoguchi, Tom Treasure, Jaden Cheah, Joe Treasure, Isaac Lee, Boston Lee, Maria Quin Ping Zhan, Sam Wallace, Elian Lowy, Vienna Liu, Hayden Rogers and Luke Evans.
There were plenty of close matches, big rallies and great energy from both sides. In the end, Collaroy edged ahead to take out the win, 18 sets to 10. Result aside, every player should be proud of the effort, improvement and team spirit that was on display.
Players and their parents were treated to a classic Collaroy BBQ, supervised by Glenn and Dave, along with Collaroy Kenny's famous home-made pizza. The food was so popular, every single sausage (both beef and chicken) was taken. A big thank you to Scott and Elise from Evolve for organising the event and to Wil and Kenny for helping to run the Challenge on the day.

All matches were completed by 3:30pm as scheduled, enabling the Sunday Social players to get on court for a hit. It's great to see our juniors receiving quality matchplay opportunities like this. We can’t wait to cross the Spit Bridge for the return match at Kooroora (and perhaps a challenge among senior members too!).
